Production turns out to be this albumвЂ™s saving grace, making mediocre Boosie raps more interesting just by giving his distinctive voice something to flow over. Boosie has вЂњNo MercyвЂќ for hoes or foes, rolls with nothing but вЂњClips and ChoppersвЂќ and carries a big вЂњBank RollвЂќ at all times. The sentiments are as predictable as they are vicious. ThatвЂ™s lazy, but no lazier than bragging youвЂ™re a pitbull of rap when DMX made barking fashionable over a decade ago.

вЂњIвЂ™m a DogвЂќ features the contradictory statement вЂњIвЂ™m too real for TV, but now I live on TVвЂќ and the annoying rhyme вЂњainвЂ™t dropped an album in two years and IвЂ™m still on TV.вЂќ Boosie, you just rhymed TV with TV not once but TWICE. DonвЂ™t you have something else to say? Nope. IвЂ™ve got better reason to not be enamored though вЂ“ itвЂ™s 2009 and youвЂ™re still rapping that we вЂњcanвЂ™t stop your hustleвЂќ and вЂњcanвЂ™t stop your shine.вЂќ ThatвЂ™s obvious, and itвЂ™s been obvious for a while. Their stomachs are rumbling, and youвЂ™re looking fat, happy and wealthy. Go around flashing your jewelry and showing off your Coogi and theyвЂ™re going to hate even more. DidnвЂ™t you just tell us that South Baton Rouge was the hardest hood ever though? Of COURSE theyвЂ™re going to hate вЂ“ you made it and theyвЂ™re still struggling. Throughout the track Boosie wants to know вЂњwhy a pussy nigga hate on meвЂќ especially from the same hood as him.

ThatвЂ™s probably why it took so long for me to hit the topвЂќ I hustle on the hill, where Walter got killed вЂњWalkin to school with a tool and a bag of weed LetвЂ™s see what Boosie himself has to say about it though: IвЂ™m sure South Baton Rouge is as bad as they come, but itвЂ™s no badder than every other area of America with high unemployment, soaring crime rates and no opportunities to achieve and succeed. Hard times make every hood hard everywhere you go. Louis is just as bad as North Omaha is as bad as North Memphis is as bad as South Central is as bad as South Baton Rouge is asвЂ¦ do you see where IвЂ™m coming from? Whatever city, county, project or neighborhood a rapper comes from is automatically the worst one thereвЂ™s ever been, because thatвЂ™s all they know, but NEWSFLASH itвЂ™s bad everywhere in 2009. ThereвЂ™s no perspective to these statements whatsoever.

Some drunk wino in the opener is immediately declaring South Baton Rouge вЂњthe baddest place in the whole worldвЂќ and feels the need to repeat himself several times as if I didnвЂ™t already get the point. ItвЂ™s 2009 though, so itвЂ™s time to give Lil Boosie another chance, but when вЂњLawd Have MercyвЂќ comes up at random while scanning this album IвЂ™m immediately questioning that decision.

He offers nothing but tired platitudes to being the вЂњBad AzzвЂќ that he is nicknamed, proclaiming how hard and how real he is to the point IвЂ™d happily accept it at face value if heвЂ™d shut up about it. Given all of those factors itвЂ™s quite perplexing that BoosieвЂ™s albums have been so boring. HeвЂ™s also proven an ability to coin catchphrases, create chart-topping singles, and generally speaking when he makes a guest appearance on a track his 16 bars make it more interesting. The Baton Rouge native does have a few things going for him including a very distinctive high pitched flow and Louisiana drawl that stands out in the commercial rap scene. Despite what previous reviews may have indicated, I donвЂ™t hate Lil Boosie вЂ“ IвЂ™m just totally underwhelmed by his releases.
